![]() Fair Winds for cruise ship tourism in Copenhagen![]() Press Release16 March 2010
Fair winds for cruise ship tourism in Copenhagen After a record year in 2009, 2010 promises to set another record in passenger numbers. With future prospects for the cruise ship sector in Copenhagen looking even better, the Cruise Copenhagen Network is very pleased. On 4 May, when the AIDAblu is the first cruise ship to dock in Copenhagen Harbour this year, it will be the start of a season which will see Denmark's capital city welcoming even more passengers than it did in 2009. Copenhagen is Europe's leading cruise destination with 530,000 passengers already booked, and ships docking no less than 305 times. 2010 will be the biggest year ever for cruise tourism measured by passenger numbers, and the trend seen last year is continuing: larger ships and more passengers.
- 2009 was a record year for Copenhagen, and we expect even more from 2010, when we're looking forward to welcoming 12 new ships as well as one cruise operator coming to Copenhagen for the first time. We have never had this many passengers before, and we are doing everything we can to maintain our already high level of passenger satisfaction. So we are very happy about the decision to expand the harbour in 2013, says Ole Andersen, who is Chairman of Cruise Copenhagen Network and Sales and Marketing Director of Wonderful Copenhagen.
Disney chooses Copenhagen - It is the first time the Disney Cruise Line is coming to Copenhagen, and we are proud to be able to welcome such a strong brand, particularly as its target market includes families, a group which has previously been overlooked by the cruise sector, says Ole Andersen. - We are delighted to be able to bring our guests to Copenhagen as part of our special summer sailings in Northern Europe this year, says Tom Wolber, Chief Operating Officer for Disney Cruise Line. The unique culture and history of Northern Europe combined with all the fun of a Disney cruise provides our guests with the vacation experience of a lifetime.
- It's great to be able to get ships here which offer passengers new opportunities. Copenhagen has a good infrastructure, the logistics work well, and we also help to give passengers some totally unique experiences. With our experience and backing from Cruise Copenhagen Network's 41 partners, we are well-equipped for the 2010 season and are already looking forward to 2011 which promises to be even better than this year, says Ole Andersen.
