![]() More flights to Europe's leading cruise destination![]() March 2010 More flights to Europe's leading cruise destination Copenhagen Airport is one of the key hubs in northern Europe and has several times been rated the best and most efficient airport in Europe. Many cruise passengers use the airport's wide range of flights to destinations in North America and southern Europe. This year, two new routes will be added to the route network to North America. Half of all cruise vessels calling at Europe's leading cruise destination, Copenhagen, also have turnaround at this popular port. Most of the passengers come from North America and southern Europe, and to ensure that these passengers can transfer easily in Copenhagen, we need a wide range of flight connections, a well-functioning airport and good infrastructure between the port, the city and the airport. Copenhagen meets all these demands. Copenhagen Airport is one of the key hubs for air transport in northern Europe and has seen strong growth in the number of destinations served in and flights to North America and southern Europe. In 2010 alone, the airport will see the launch of two new daily trans-Atlantic services, when Air Canada opens its new service between Toronto and Copenhagen and Delta Air Lines begins operating from New York JFK to Copenhagen. The route network to southern Europe has also grown strongly in recent years. In the coming summer season, in addition to a number of charter services, there will be scheduled services to Copenhagen from six cities in Spain (in addition to the Canary Islands) and from seven cities in Italy. A leading airport Copenhagen has been rated Europe's best and most efficient airport five times in the past decade. A well-functioning airport is of great importance to the cruise operators and their passengers, especially in the busy summer months when up to five large cruise vessels per day change passengers in Copenhagen. "The handling of the many cruise passengers at the airport requires thorough preparations. Before each season, we make detailed plans for all major arrivals and departures of cruise vessels in close collaboration with the incoming agencies, handling companies, the Port of Copenhagen, Wonderful Copenhagen and other parties," said Michael Løve, COO at Copenhagen Airports. In recent years, the airport has invested in special facilities and services to handle cruise passengers and their baggage. For the coming season, the airport is working with other parties to establish onboard check-in and baggage handling in the Port of Copenhagen in order to shorten waiting time at the airport and give passengers an opportunity to spend their time enjoying the attractions in Copenhagen instead. The location of Copenhagen Airport is unique with its short distance to the Copenhagen city centre and the well-functioning infrastructure which makes it easy to travel to and from the airport. From the airport's Terminal 3 (international), there are Metro and train services to the city centre with a travel time of only 12-14 minutes, whilst shuttle busses to and from the port or the downtown hotels can use the motorway directly to the airport.
