Copenhagen wins travel industry's Oscar for the fourth year in a rowLast night, Copenhagen was once again voted Europe's leading cruise destination at the 2007 World Travel Awards. At the World Travel Awards ceremony in Newcastle, Copenhagen ran off with the title of Europe's Leading Cruise Destination for the fourth year in a row. More cities than ever before were nominated in this category along with Copenhagen. This year's competitors were Amsterdam, Athens, Cannes, Dubrovnik, Lisbon, Oslo, Reykjavik, St. Petersburg, Stockholm and Venice. The 170,000 representatives from the global travel industry voted on which destinations, hotels and airlines should win World Travel Awards, which is the cruise industry's Oscar. "The competitive playing field emphasizes that more and more destinations focus on the cruise industry than ever before. The fact that the prize is awarded by our peers in the travel industry makes both our partners in Cruise Copenhagen Network and us extremely proud. We view the award as recognition of our years of strategic work with Copenhagen as an international cruise destination through our efforts in both Cruise Copenhagen Network and Cruise Baltic," says Wonderful Copenhagen marketing director, Ole Andersen. Wonderful Copenhagen is just one of the 45 partners in Cruise Copenhagen Network that has focused on the international marketing of Copenhagen as a cruise destination since 1991. In addition, participation in Cruise Baltic, which consists of 25 destinations and 42 partners in 10 countries in the Baltic Sea region, has strengthened Copenhagen's position in the cruise industry. By the end of the year, Copenhagen will have a record year with 420.000 cruise-passenger-visits. The total number of ships that call into port will be 289. This year's last cruise ship docks in December. For more information: Sales and marketing director, Ole Andersen, Tel: +45 33 55 74 20, mobile: +45 23 38 30 51 |
