Along the way, you'll pass the Little Mermaid, the bronze statue of a character from Hans Christian Andersen and the symbol of Copenhagen. You'll also pass Amalienborg Palace, the royal residence where you can watch the changing of the guard daily at noon, and the charming canal street known as Nyhavn, with its colorful old wooden schooners, outdoor restaurants and cafés. At Nyhavn, you can take a 50-minute canal cruise through the city for DKK 50 (about $8). Or continue your walk through elegant Kongens Nytorv square to Europe's longest pedestrian shopping street, Strøget.
