Cruise guests love Copenhagen

It pays off to be friendly, interesting and efficient: A brand new ECC Port Survey carried out by the Business Research and Economic Advisors – BREA/GPW - shows cruise guests are extremely satisfied with their experience when calling at Copenhagen. And their spending in Copenhagen is Premium.

The friendly and welcoming Danish way of receiving guests reaches a high satisfaction level of 99%.

Great sights and variety of things to do

Historic sights and museums, combined with the variety of things to see and do while visiting Copenhagen, also achieve high scores: respectively 96% and 97% of guests said they were satisfied with the cultural experience and the attractions in the Danish capital.

Plenty of new tourists

The survey shows that for a sizeable majority (68%) of passengers, this was their first visit to Copenhagen (European Average: 81%) For most of those who had returned to Copenhagen before this was their third visit.

96% of the survey respondents reported that they went ashore in Copenhagen (European Average: 82%). The typical passenger spent an average of 5 hours ashore (European average: 4.9 hours).

68% of the cruise passengers that went ashore purchased a shore excursion (European average 62%). 32% of the crew respondents reported going ashore during the cruise call at Copenhagen (European average: 30%). An additional 30% who did not go ashore during the call, did so at least once in the previous month.

Premium spending

The average Copenhagen cruise passenger had a household income of nearly €68,000. This is 13% higher than the average income of European cruise passengers with €60,100.

Copenhagen passengers who purchased a tour, spent an average of €86 per party, or €41 per passenger for their tour. This is 28% higher than the European average of €32 per passenger.

Including the average cost of a shore excursion, cruise passengers that went ashore spent an average of €75.59 during their call at Copenhagen. This is 18% higher than the European average of €63.86.

Passengers reported spending another €34.65 per passenger on other goods while ashore. This is 9% higher than the European average of €31.69.

The survey period is based on cruises in July-September 2010. Selected results:
