Get around Copenhagen almost for free and experience the city at the same time - like the Copenhageners do it. From the waterside or on a bike.
Free city bikes
The city bikes in Copenhagen are world famous, and many visitors as well as Copenhageners use them as a quick and free alternative to cars, busses and taxis, when getting around the city. The City of Copenhagen systematically expands the net of bicycle lanes and routes. Hence, you can get around Copenhagen faster by bicycle than by any other means of transportation. And it is a great way to see the city. All you have to do is find one of the 110 city bike-racks, deposit a DKK 20 coin in the locker and ride off. When you return the cycle to any rack, you get your DKK 20 coin back. The city bikes are on the streets from mid April to November.
Hop on the harbour bus
Copenhagen is surrounded by water, and experiencing the city from the seaside is a must. Plus it is also often faster to cross the harbour than to drive around it. The blue and yellow harbour busses are a great means of transportation and a cheap alternative to the official canal tours. For just DKK 21 for adults and DKK 10,50 for children under 16, you can get from the Royal Library (Black Diamond) in one end of the harbour to The Little Mermaid in the other end, passing the idyllic district Christianshavn, Nyhavn and the Royal Opera House on its way to Nordre Toldbod. Here, you can walk along Langelinie to Copenhagen's old landmark, The Little Mermaid. Nearby is also the Museum of Danish Resistance. Admission to the museum is free.
